Stress Test (Treadmill Exercise Test)
A physical stress test performed on a treadmill to evaluate cardiac function under exercise conditions. It detects coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and assesses exercise tolerance.
Indications:
- Investigation of angina and chest pain during exercise
- Detection of coronary artery disease
- Assessment of endurance and physical fitness
- Evaluation of treatment effectiveness
- Prognostic assessment following a myocardial infarction
- Pre-operative cardiac evaluation
Advantages:
- Physiological stress through natural exercise
- Detection of ischemia and arrhythmias
- Measurement of endurance and exercise capacity
- Drug-free, non-invasive procedure
Examination Procedure:
The patient walks on a treadmill at gradually increasing speed and incline. Throughout the test, the ECG, blood pressure, and symptoms are continuously monitored. The examination is terminated once the target heart rate is achieved or symptoms appear.
- Duration: 20–30 minutes
