Ophthalmology Department — ELPIS-Papaioannou Clinic

Following a significant investment in the upgrade of both technical equipment and clinical services, the Ophthalmology Department of ELPIS Clinic now delivers high-level specialised ophthalmic care to the city of Volos and the wider Magnesia region.

Specifically, the state-of-the-art Constellation® phacoemulsification and vitrectomy platform by Alcon enables the management of cataracts using the most advanced small-incision, suture-free and injection-free techniques. Within minutes, the system delivers unparalleled precision, providing patients with clear vision almost immediately following surgery and a rapid recovery, with return to daily activities within a few days.

Utilising the latest Nidek optical biometry technology, the appropriate intraocular lens (IOL) is selected with maximum precision, allowing simultaneous correction of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia, thereby minimising or eliminating the need for corrective spectacles postoperatively.

Furthermore, and of particular significance, surgical management of retinal conditions via vitrectomy is now available for the first time in our city. These include retinal detachment, vitreous haemorrhage, as well as macular holes and epiretinal membranes, following comprehensive retinal assessment with fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
