The Pulmonology Department of the Clinic is dedicated to the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of chronic respiratory diseases (asthma, COPD, etc.), as well as the management of acute, life-threatening conditions.
Services provided include:
- Investigation and treatment of cough (chronic or acute)
- Mantoux tuberculin skin test for the detection of latent tuberculosis and assessment of possible disease activity (including sample collection for Ziehl-Neelsen staining)
- Investigation and treatment of respiratory infections (microbiological sampling and culture for targeted antimicrobial therapy)
- Investigation of pleural effusions (ultrasound-guided thoracentesis, in addition to standard radiological and imaging evaluation, with cytological examination of the sample) and their management via therapeutic thoracentesis or chemical pleurodesis where indicated
- Spirometry with pre- and post-bronchodilator assessment
- Initiation and titration of Non-Invasive Mechanical Ventilation (NIV/NIMV) to reduce the likelihood of endotracheal intubation and ICU admission
- Arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis and adjustment of long-term home oxygen therapy
- Emergency oxygen therapy in acute respiratory failure (high-flow supplemental oxygen administration to improve tissue and cellular oxygenation in conditions such as cardiorespiratory arrest, shock, low cardiac output states, and metabolic acidosis)
- Nocturnal pulse oximetry at the patient's bedside (continuous overnight monitoring and recording of blood oxygen saturation and heart rate)
- Full multiparameter polysomnography (PSG) in the Clinic's Sleep Laboratory for the diagnosis and treatment of sleep-disordered breathing, including obstructive sleep apnea
